Let’s talk about the charming, wild-west town of Cody, Wyoming. I was lucky enough to spend the 4th of July there this year, and it was unforgettable. From lively patios to mountain views, Cody has that perfect small-town Americana vibe. Here are a few of my top spots to check out if you ever find yourself in Cody:
Bits and Bites: Where to Eat (and Sip!) in Cody
🍻The Silver Dollar Bar
This place was a vibe. Cheap, tasty drinks, a super lively patio, and a killer lineup of live music. The best part? The patio gives you front-row seats to the 4th of July parade so you can sip your drink and enjoy the show without leaving your seat.
🍽️The Irma Hotel
An iconic Cody stop! Whether you’re popping in for apps like pretzels, jalapeño poppers, or mozza sticks or going big with the famous prime rib buffet (which I highly recommend). The Irma delivers on cozy western charm and satisfying food.
🍦Big Chillz
Ice cream lovers, rejoice. Big Chillz is your go-to for a sweet treat. Tons of flavor options and the perfect cool-down after a day in the sun.
🍕Tossers Pizza
The ultimate za stop in town. Tossers serves up cheesy, delicious pizza with all the good vibes. Bonus: It’s directly across the street from Big Chillz. Yes, pizza and ice cream dreams do come true.
🥪Jersey Mikes
Newer to Cody but already a local fave. If you love a good sub, don’t skip this spot. Be sure to ask for the Jersey sauce and you can thank me later.
🥩8th st. at the Ivy
A great dinner option with a variety of choices. Whether you’re craving classic pub fare, pasta, or another round of prime rib (because why not?). The atmosphere is warm and laid-back, perfect for a casual evening out.
🍹 Drive-Thru Libations
One of Cody’s unexpected (and delightful) quirks? Drive-thru cocktails. Yes, really. You can roll up and grab a mudslide (a must-try), margarita, or daiquiri – served in a sealed to-go cup, of course. It’s the perfect treat for a summer evening, especially if you’re heading back to your porch, campsite, or hotel to relax.
Important note: These drinks are meant to be enjoyed after the drive, not during! Be safe, and always follow local laws. Sip responsibly, and leave the keys with a designated driver if needed.
Beyond the Town: Exploring the Region
🌋Yellowstone National Park
No trip to northwest Wyoming is complete without stepping into the wild wonder that is Yellowstone. From geysers to wildlife sightings, it’s a surreal, once-in-a-lifetime experience that’s just a short drive away from Cody. A day trip here will give you a taste but if you can plan more time you can cover more ground.
⛰️Red Lodge, Montana
Ok, this is not in Cody but just over the border and through the mountains, Red Lodge is a picturesque little town worth the detour. Think alpine charm, cozy shops, and breathtaking views. A perfect day trip if you’re looking to stretch your legs and soak up more of the region.
Cody won me over with its small-town charm, friendly faces, and seriously good eats. Whether you’re there for the 4th of July festivities or just passing through on your way to Yellowstone, be sure to take some time to explore and enjoy all this gem of a town has to offer.
