Are you heading to Puerto Vallarta (PV), Mexico, or thinking about it? PV is a diverse and vibrant city with so many great restaurants to check out. Travis and I recently spent a week there in an Airbnb, which allowed us to experience the cuisine the city has to offer.
Breakfast spots
These were our two favourite breakfast restaurants:
- Nicole’s – Located in the boutique hotel Casa Nicole, in the Romantic Zone. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. We opted for their cute outdoor terrace. The food was delicious (and so were the mimosas!). The prices were slightly higher – likely due to being part of a hotel- but the food was so yummy and had big servings, so we didn’t mind. You can view their breakfast menu here. Naturally, I opted for the ‘Nicole,’ and Travis, true to his nature, went for the ‘All American’. Although you can make reservations online, we could walk in without a reservation.
- Coco’s Kitchen – Also located in the Romantic Zone is Coco’s, which has one of the cutest outdoor patios and some of the best breakfast options in PV. It’s a short walk from the Malecon and easy to find. Travis had hot cakes, eggs, and bacon. I went for Eggs Benedict with a side of refried beans. Since we were there on Travis’s birthday, we also partook in some morning tequila shots, and they sang Happy Birthday to him. It was so much fun! There are no reservations for Coco’s. It is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Lunch Spots
These are a couple of places we enjoyed lunch at. You could also visit them for dinner.
- Mar y Vino – A unique dining experience in the heart of PV. Be prepared to remove your shoes as you dine from a pool overlooking the sea! Seafood is their specialty, but Travis and I were both in the mood for burgers (he had beef, and I had vegetarian), which were also delicious! The cocktails did not disappoint! The restaurant was very quiet at lunchtime, but I would recommend making a reservation regardless to secure a seat in the pool area.
- Los Muertos Brewing – If you love pizza or beer, Los Muertos Brewing is not to be missed! I think it speaks for itself. It’s a fun atmosphere with yummy pizza and refreshing craft beers.
Dinner Spots
- La Leche – Is a milk-themed restaurant. Yep – you read that right, milk. Since Travis loves milk, I had to take him there for his birthday dinner. The all-white decor gives it a vibe – and they have a disco ball and DJ booth to set the mood. The menu is relatively small and a bit on the pricier side, so I would suggest taking a peek at it before reserving your table. La Leche is located a bit outside the downtown areas, so you will likely need an Uber/taxi, depending on where you are staying. We had snails for an appetizer, and I had the duck. The birthday boy had steak and bone marrow – or ‘Cabreria and Bone.’ And, of course lots of milk.
- La Capella – This was one of our favourite restaurants, not necessarily because of the food but the view! It is very romantic, and we watched the sunset over the bay and the iconic Guadalupe Cathedral. The violinists are also a nice touch. If you are looking for a romantic dinner – look no further!
- Hacienda San Angel – A hidden gem – literally hidden, you have to ring a doorbell to get in. It is located across from La Capella and is another romantic setting. When you walk into the grounds, candles burn everywhere, and a beautiful water fountain awaits. The restaurant patio overlooks the other side of the bay from La Capella. There is no view of the cathedral, but we loved it all the same. Be sure to make a reservation for this hidden gem.
- Si Senor– Is the perfect spot to get your toes in the sand during dinner. Located right on the beach with a view of the Los Muertos Pier, it’s a great place to watch the gorgeous PV sunset while you dine. Its casual atmosphere and food make for a perfect relaxed evening out.
These are some great unique options to check out the next time you find yourself in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico!
