Have a long layover at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta (ATL) Airport? We recently had a five-hour layover on our way to Hawaii. Five hours is that awkward amount of time where it’s not quite enough time to leave the airport but too much time to spend inside the terminal. You know what I mean? Here are five things you can do to kill some time in ATL:
- Minute Suites – Located in concourse B, you will find a Minute Suites. The Minute Suites allow you to rent a private, quiet room on an hourly basis. It’s a great place to nap, relax or work. We rented a room for two hours and got some much-needed rest. The room is small but cozy. It had a pullout couch, so we each had an area to lay down, pillows, and dimming lights. It also had a T.V and a mini fridge. They only have soft drinks and snacks for purchase so if you are hungry grab something from the food court (we opted for Wendy’s – Travis’s favourite) to bring with you. We booked two hours and it was roughly $50 CAD per hour. You are definitely paying for convenience. In our case, we had a long travel day and it was so worth the two-hour nap we were able to have.
- Walk between the concourse to see the Jungle Theme – Also known as the ‘Flight Path’ an artwork installation designed for travellers to feel like they are walking through a forest/jungle. The Flight Path simulates tree canopies, bird sounds, and lighting.
- Indulge at the Spa – Located in concourse B you will find a Spa and Beauty Lounge. What better way to relax and unwind while travelling.
- Shop or window shop – One of my favourite things to buy at an airport is a new book. Hit a bookstore and lose yourself in a new story for a couple of hours. Browse the different shops for things like souvenirs. It’s a great time to get those last-minute items you may have forgotten on your actual trip.
- Eat, Drink & Be Merry – Of course, eating and enjoying a beverage, cold beer, glass of wine, or cocktail of your choice is a great way to pass the time. Whether you are just kicking off your vacation or toasting its end, transform a mundane layover into a memorable culinary adventure.
We hope you found these ideas helpful. ATL is one of the busiest airports in the world, offering a variety of things to see and do when you have a layover there. If we missed anything, please let us know in the comments for our next visit!
